Hello, Tsumelab

An English-language home for tsume, joseki, and yakuman. Here's what we're building.

Tsumelab is a new English-language site about Japan’s three great strategy games: riichi mahjong, shogi, and go.

What this site is

A working notebook by a Japan-based player who is dan-rank in shogi and a curious traveler in the other two. Buying guides, strategy notes, platform comparisons, and the occasional translated idea from Japanese-language sources you can’t find in English yet.

What’s coming first

We’re starting with riichi mahjong, the fastest-growing of the three in the English-speaking world right now. Expect:

  • A complete buying guide for riichi mahjong sets — what to pay for, what to skip
  • A comparison of the three main online platforms (Mahjong Soul, Tenhou, Riichi City)
  • A short bridge for chess players who already think strategically but haven’t met a wall of tiles before

After that

Shogi and go content, in that order — but riichi is the door.

If something on the site is helpful, links to gear and books on this site are affiliate links. They don’t change what you pay, and they keep this notebook open.
