About Tsumelab

Tsumelab is an English-language guide to Japan's great strategy games — riichi mahjong, shogi, and go. The name comes from the puzzles these games are studied through: tsume problems in shogi, joseki in go, and the hunt for a yakuman in mahjong.

I'm Taisei Otsuyama, writing from Japan. I hold a 2-dan rank in shogi and play riichi mahjong and go as a student of both. For the games I'm still learning, this site curates and translates what the Japanese-language community already knows, rather than pretending to expertise I don't have.
